Hi Brian, I think you are confusing your citizenship with your residency.
Changing your citizenship changes the passport you hold...'citizen' tends to specify a person who legally belongs to a country, and 'resident' is used, generally, for a person who is legally living or working in a particular locality. You are legally obliged in any country to change your residency ('Residencia' here in Spain) after being there 6 months or more. And, yes, yours will be more straight forward...(EU citizens do not need a visa when moving to Spain as they are only required to register with the local police office in the city they will reside.) than your wifes (Non-EU citizens are required to complete various
formalities that allow them to obtain temporary residence and then a permanent residency in Spain.) My humble advise is not to try to complete the process for your wife alone, do seek help as trying to understand which are the up to date required papers can be problematic. The help with my residencia application cost me 180€, best money I spent after months of trying alone and going round in circles. Best of luck with it all.
