Dear Carolyn60, I was pleased to see your post regarding the care of your olive trees we have recently bought a property on the outskirts of Yecla on the RM425 and are having the same problem although not as many trees as you, we are also looking for someone to look after the swimming pool, we have spoken to Mandy and Danny from Pinoso about the pool but unless they can find more pools in the area they can't help, we have found some really helpful trades people from Pinoso thanks to Gary Morrison Estate Agent and Andy at Wisemove hope you find someone to help and maybe able to pass details on Kindest regards Lynda

Dear Lynda

Thank you for replying to my post. I believe I know Gary who you speak off, have you been here long?

We are using this visit to sort things out, and decide on a to do list.......so much. Perhaps you would share your contacts we are needing electrician, new windows, plasterer / painter to name a few.

Again thank you so much for contacting, I almost gave up 👍🏼😊

Many thanks Lyn

Hi Andy, there must be someone in Yecla that would want the olives or at least give advice, I have had a reply off Carolyn 60, we won't be over until either Christmas or New Year, we bought our property in April this year, we don't know to much yet about Yecla we can manage to get to Pinoso without getting lost but don't know where the campo is, we are just off RM 425 Villena Rd, we don't speak Spanish 😱we have had a property on the Cumbre del sol, Moraria. for 14 years it was more touristy so every one spoke English but thank goodness for phone translators.

Regards Tony +Lynda

Hi.    Yeah you would think somebody would want the olives but not had any luck yet.   Could do myself but we shall see.   Yecla is nice you will like it.  👍

Hi

We also live in the campo in Yecla and have been here 18 months.

We have approx 300 youngish olive trees & they are hard work.

We were also looking for someone to look after them but to no avail, it could possibly be due to the low cost that the bodegas are currently paying for the olives & also the grapes.

Our neighbours kindly harvested ours last year in return for some olive oil.

The tree’s also needed trimming so we got a few quotes around €500 for approx a weeks work, luckily enough we found some one cheaper if I also helped him ( which I didn’t mind because I could learn what he was doing at the same time ) we finished in 4 days but there was at least a day of tidying up the branches & give them to a neighbour for food for his tribe/trip of goats.

This year I will attempt to trim the trees myself & as for collecting the olives there are not many as the cutting last year reduces the crop.

As for looking after your pool I’m sure as more British move to Yecla some one will setup a little round, we look after ours ourselves which takes about an hour a week.

I do remember a young man on here looking for work as his girlfriend had got a job teaching English in a local school, it may be worthwhile messaging him.

Hi Tony

Just seen your previous mail, great idea watch others cut back, think might interest my Steve, he’s learning slowly.

Who did you get to do trees, when is best time to trim back? It’s all very alien to me, I know garden back in Cambridge......

This is such a life changer.......we’re loving where the learning curve is taking us.

Kindest regards

Lynn and Steve

Hi Carolyn

We had some building work done and one of the guys who was doing the building just started cutting back some of our olive trees in his lunch break, anyway we got talking and asked him if he would like to to do them all & we would pay him.He agreed and came one week along with myself and give all our olive trees a good cutback, he is from Jumilla, but I’m sure there must be someone in Yecla who could also do it.

Everyone I ask says do certain things at different times so I dont know if there is a correct time to cut everything back,I’m just doing ours now & am half way through.Yes you are correct, you can throw the rule book out of the window here, we have killed plants that survive anywhere else in Spain 😂.
