Looking to buy and move to Yecla

Hi George,

My husband and I have just made the move to Yecla in September to a house in the Campo with a pool. Life is good, the weather is fantastic and Yecla has lots to offer.

In terms of things to consider, it’s not known yet what the requirements will be for residencia postBrexit but at the moment you need 10k each in savings for the application. If you are in the country you will need a car. In terms of utilities you would need to know if you have a connection to an agricultural supply of water and if you  have mains electricity- we installed solar and generator for our electricity and currently have a water well but are looking into joining the agricultural supply and use bottled water for drinking/ cooking. IBI tax ( similar time council tax) is cheap ours is 125 euros per year. You will need to allow for private health care too which is required for residencia - ours was just under 1500 euros for the year for both of us.

Shopping is about the same for food, beer and wine way cheaper than the UK.

Sure! The policy is with Salus and was set up by The Foreign Exchange in Pinoso - they are all English and help sort things out for expats . They arranged our Lobster SIM cards which give you free calls to the UK and our Bank account at Sabadell. They do Residencia and driving licences too. Well worth a look on google or Facebook.

Welcome to Yecla, potentially. 

We have been here for 5 years, and love it. The locals are great, and always willing to help, and practice their english.

Our "council tax" is around €190 a year, including the pool. Electricity averages €80 a month, and drinking water around €15 per month. We lived in London previously so find the cost of living much less.

We use the health service here and it is great, first class.

Your replies are helpful. We are hoping to arrange some viewing trips in the new year once COVID-19 restrictions are eased.

We need to physically view places as we cannot decide between town houses or a country house. I like space and my wife likes to be close to amenities.

Nice to hear your comments and opinions about Yecla, if you need any local advice, help or tips I will be pleased to help you. 

You can find a lot of contry houses in a radius of 5-10 kms around the town, which will give you the best of both contry and town. Distances are really short here and traffic issues simply don't exist.

I agree with everything that’s been said so far. Costs are definitely less here than in the U.K. you may need someone to look after your affairs here, making sure you are getting the better deal regarding the equivalent of council tax, rates, etc.

However, if you thinking of staying here permanently will you be looking for work?

I don’t mean to be nosey but it is not easy for anyone at the moment. Yecla is one of the town’s that has very low unemployment as there is a lot of furniture manufacturing related businesses and industries.

Will your son get bored? There are certainly activities for teenagers but not sure if your son is proficient in Spanish yet to feel comfortable. 

Hopefully things will go just fine for you. Remember the winter months have very cold nights!

But be aware the same property can be for sale through various different estate agents.
