Has anyone on this forum bought any land in Costa Calida and built a house? Does anyone know whether the process is simple, or are there

any problems getting the planning permission to build on the land?

A potential minefield. Unless you really know what you are doing (and your question suggests you do not) I suggest you forget it. Sellers will tell you that you can build this or that, pools no problem etc only for you to discover that it is not urban land, you cannot get utilities and so on.

If you are determined to pursue it, go to the Ayuntamiento and ask them what is possible, then employ a very experienced team of surveyors, architects and lawyers.

My husband bought some land in 2001-the estate agent assured him that he would be "laying blocks 1 month later" Fast forward to 3 yrs 6 months later..... building permission granted!  He did everything by the book and got the habitacion certificate eventually. Lots of fees to pay etc.Lots of visits to Murcia city and Cartagena. Now a lovely 3 bed. finca plus pool is the result with views across the valley. Built on an architect's certificate (my husband thinks his architect was a worse parasite than the English estate agent, who by the way had lots of denuncias against him).  My husband said he would do it again BUT have lots more knowledge. Also have plenty of money to finish the job......and have a good translator to help you as you do battle with the town hall, utilty companies etc. So not simple. Read some books-the one by John Humphries building a house in Greece is the worst -it must have aged him prematurely by at least 10 years.
