Hi All,

Last may, we bought a home on lower c, since then, we've been five times, driving once at Christmas.

As a norm, we hire a car at Covera airport, usually from Goldcar & I've just done this again yesterday as I'm coming again in June with our daughter and son in law.

My question is does anyone know if there's a more cost effective way/company to hire from when we come over that might reduce the cost of hiring a little than the current way I'm doing it?

All & every bit of advice would be welcome as you've all more experience than me 😅

Thanks

Paul and Jan Abram.

Yes you could buy a car and use airport parking service companies who deliver your car to you at the airport when you arrive. There are several of these, i am sure some members would recommend a good company.

Hi Paddy,

Might be something to consider, I think one of my neighbours does this.

Thank you for your advice, really appreciate it

Hi Paul

try going through carjet.com they tend to have good rates with all the car hire companies and normally get unlimited mileage, I purchased 2 years ago and decided last year to buy a car which is more cost effective, Cars in Spain dont seem to have a hard life so we bought a 21 year old Seat Cordoba TD!, Insurance at €210 a year, tax at €129, works out better for me

if continuing with hire cars OK Mobility are a great company to deal with (again via carjet)

hope this helps

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your suggestions, I don't think I'd imagined running a car in

Spain would be that reasonable.

Certainly food for thought, thanks again.

Paul

Try https://economybookings.tp.st/5K3mcJxB I've used them loads in the past and always found them very good. (Although I would avoid Goldcar as their "add-ons" are quite expensive. You could try buying a cheap runaround and leaving it here but it's only cost effective if you plan on visiting on a regular basis.

We bought a car from Cars in Spain Torre Pacheco, and park with Plane Parking.

Absolutely no problems with either.

Park at Corvera or Alicante or both.

Excellent service.

Please don't use GoldCar - We missed our plane back in January so had to hire a car for just one day (6 euros plus normal credit card deposit etc). We literally drove it back to Camposol in the afternoon then back to Alicante early morning.  2 days after we got back, they took £150 out of my bank account saying there was a scratch on the bumper and then overcharged me for mileage by 100km!! They took no notice of the video's I sent them showing no damage either before or after the hire -  they kept saying they couldn't open them and that there was damage and to basically "to go forth and multiply!"
40 emails later, even threatening legal action and Ombudsmen, I sent them a link that would notify me if they tried to open it - no notifications but they still said the link didn't work (it did as I sent it to someone else to check)
I finally told them it wouldn't look good with the courts, when I proved they hadn't accessed the video's when they suddenly decided that there was damage already there when we picked the car up and refunded all my money!  They aren't part of the group that has an ombudsman so there is no official redress but it seems perseverance prevailed!  I would never ever use them again...

I can also recommend Plane Parking, used them many times and also been reliable.
