PP, as said earlier we loved Sucina. The day after viewing houses with an estate agent there we got the bus from Santiago De La Ribera up to Balsicas and then a taxi to Sucina. After spending several hours going around the town having something to eat and meeting a few locals and expats we tried to phone our taxi driver to head back to our hotel at SDLR. Unfortunately we couldn't make contact so, there being no buses at that time of night, were stuck. We needn't have worried. An English chap we'd been speaking to left, borrowed a car and ran us home. He said he wouldn't even take payment - fortunately we were able to force him to take enough for a few glasses of wine.

That is just one example of why I don't want to be stuck up in the backwoods.

I'd spent ages looking online at Camposol, Mazarron Country Club, Sierra Golf Club, etc as all were offering nice houses at affordable prices. They offered everything we were looking for. My wife drove so we'd planned on a few local driving lessons for her before buying a car. Now that I'm on my own, transport links are vital to me and those places are simply too remote.

Hi: unfortunately so many people just forget reality (and the what ifs) and see what they can get for their money when they house search.  Of course we are all dictated by our own financial means.  The first criteria for us was Location? Where is this place; you get where I mean.

Best of luck.

Hello and Good Morning

Nice to get your response.  Thank you.

I see you don't drive and this was a problem for us.  My husband does; it does restrict you but our idea was never to live in the hills/mountains.

We contacted a Spanish/English Agent in Torrevieja; told them our budget and criteria and that is how it all worked out for us.  Have bought a new build Villa in Lo Pagan, waiting on Completion which may now be mid May, as it's running a month behind schedule.  So happy; within 8 minutes of the beach.  Although we shall have our own swimming pool and Solarium.  Obviously a short taxi ride to San Javier Airport until we bring over our car.  Finally putting down roots and beginning to feel relaxed and looking forward to a life less fraught than UK.

I'm more than happy to give you details of Agent.  They were fantastic and as soon as reservation monies put down we were given paperwork and immediately taken to Notaire, Solicitor and to Bank to open an Account.  Solicitor has POA and she has now got our NIE and she will set up standing orders/direct debits for utilities etc.  Solicitor great too.  Bank as well fantastic.

Yes, whatever you do as you can't drive just research where transport and hospitals, doctors, dentist close by.  That would be my advise although you don't have to take it.  I'm so independent and although we would have had many more €'s in the bank should we have purchased inland it would have been a slow strangulation (perish the thought if you will).

Must go now; Saturday morning and it's catch up time.

Look forward to hearing from you, if you wish.

Regards

Marg

We are in a new build villa in Lo Pagan too, fab area, less than 10 mins from the airport, x

I went over to Murcia 2 or 3 years ago with my wife staying in Santiago De La Ribera while searching the area looking for a property to buy and settle over there. We looked at the Sierra Golf resort - too remote as we wouldn't be driving on arrival, Balsicas - didn't fancy either the properties o...

...r the town although the rail links looked interesting, Sucina - loved the place, loved the people, loved the house we viewed, unfortunately it got sold the next day.

When we got back my wife decided she couldn't make the move permanently so it got put on the back burner.

I'm now on my own and after a couple of weeks research have decided that Los Alcazares is the place for me. I'm hoping to go over within 3 or 4 weeks with a view to a long term rental, 1 or 2 bedroom.

Now in my early 60's so a bit of warmth is desired to ease the old bones.

Maybe I'll meet some of you in the near future. Take care. A.

Hi A

I noticed your post and wondered if you ever made it to LOS Alcazares to live. If so have you settled ok?

Regards

Margaret
