Hi,  After living here for a while, we thought we really must sort out our residencia. We have appointments for next February at the Murcia city oficina de extranjeros.

Our Spanish translator has told us that the Murcia oficina is asking for applicants to have 7,000 Euros EACH in a Spanish bank account.  We don't and we won't by February! We are UK pensioners. We have state and other pensions, we are not rich but our income is quite a bit above the minimum generally required. My husband is already in the Spanish health system, I have form S-1. We have paid off our mortgage (yay!). Our translator is aware of our status.

It seems that the requirement to have this chunk of money in the bank is not required over the border in Alicante province. Is it just Murcia?  Any information greatly appreciated.

Yes, the appointment made approx 1 week ago. Anyone else thinking to sort out their Residencia at the Murcia office before Brexit, do it now!

Yea I'm just starting to do it now. No appointment yet. But I have someone on it. I've been told that Murcia waiting times for appointments are long. Hope to all be sorted before Brexit 😀

look at the CAB Spain website it explains the minimum resources required for residencia but there is always ‘local discretion’

We had to show our pensions paid into a Spanish bank account with three months bank statements ...maybe best to open a Spanish account and have your pensions transferred to there.

Crissywissy, thank you so much for the info.

I have just realised that in my original post I did not make it clear that we do have a Spanish bank account. We fulfil the "national" criteria re income into Spain. We have NIEs etc. On paper, we are financially stable, have healthcare covered yada yada. It's just this 7,000 Euro thing.

We have a 2018 copy of "You and the law in Spain", no requirement for this mentioned there. It's not a requirement in Alicante province, I don't know about elsewhere.

I am hoping that someone reads this who is in a similar position to us and has got their Residencia fairly recently and would share their experience. Whether we can negotiate on a smaller sum. Whether this sum is dependent on level of income. Our translator says she knows people have taken out a short term bank loan. We don't really want to do this unless it is the only way.

We only paid off our Spanish mortgage recently. We celebrated! Looks like we will have to save more dosh and put off any projects until next Spring. No fitted wardrobes for us for a while ….

We had our residency appointments yesterday in Murcia city, these were booked around a month ago.

The woman clerk was difficult to the point of being rude. Everything was checked and double checked, trying to find fault with everything. The Moroccans seemed to have little trouble though.

The requirements were,

Passport, ehic, house deeds, passport photo, padron, nie and bus pass ( only kidding ).

No bank statements were needed.

They seem to be making it harder by the day.

Pm Debbie Shaw on Facebook. If anyone can help you she can.

Good luck.

Very different experience to ours in Cartegena, all pleasant from the policeman to the lady funcionario.

Lucida100, that is astonishing!! And bonkers. What a MAD place this is.

If it's a choice between rudeness and 14,000 Euros, we'll take the rudeness every time.

Thanks for that.
