Hi I don't know if you can help me but I have read in other areas ie Almeria they have a big problem with flies! Most of the houses I have looked at have mosquito/fly netting over outside eating areas and their pools. I just wanted to know is this an issue in this area?

I currently live in the Canaries where although you do get some flies they are not in excess and you certainly don't need areas netted off because of them.

Any fed back would be much appreciated

Thanks

A few like every other hot area…..never had a problem in Cartagena though. We live about 20 minutes away and not a problem except when theres muckspreading on the surrounding fields…then only for a day…nothing like the problem we had when we holidayed a few years ago in Arboleas in Almeria.

Just make sure you don't pick an area with pig farms or fertiliser plants. We made the mistake first time round but anywhere agricultural you will find flies. Inland is obviously worse dont seem to be bothered too much by the coast

We moved to the area from the Canary Islands at the end of 2020 and find that there are fewer flies here than we got over there. As mentioned previously, there are fewer flies in coastal areas than there are inland, where farming increases the fly population at least ten-fold (not to mention the smells)! We have insect nets on all our windows and although we rarely even see any flies, we know that any stray mosquitoes can't get in if we have the windows open at night. There are definitely more mosquitoes here than we had in Lanzarote!
