Hi every one...my husband and I live in javea at present. We are thinking of moving further south to Cartagena or Puerto de mazarron as its

pretty down there and warmer in the winter etc. and to be nearer to friends.

We are uncertain whether its best to live full time in Mazarron or Cartagena. We are both semi retired.  It would be nice to live near some brits .

Would appreciate any replies with some advice please.

Thanks.

Oh no why would you move from beautiful Javea?  I have a villa on the Mar Menor Golf Resort which is  lovely place, but I'd swap any day to be in Javea.  Have you been to either place?  It's a very different landscape, yes it's warmer but it's very dry and desert like.  So much prettier where you are.  I suggest renting somewhere first to get a feel for the areas.

Thank you very much for your reply, yes we were thinking of renting first.

We do like it here but we haven't got enough room where we are living and want to experience a different area in Spain.

As they say you have one life ...so live it !

It is GREEN here but that's because of the rainy days. Although we haven't had any rain since the Gota Fria.!

I was just hoping as we don't know the area, that someone could tell us if its best to live permanently in Puerto De Mazarron or Cartagena.

We don't really want to live in a Holiday area as it will be so quiet in the winter months.

Thanks again

good evening,

Yes we are intending to come down to Cartagena in the next couple of weeks and stay there for a couple of nights to have a look round.

We can then travel to Mazarron etc.

Thanks you for your reply.

Hi there. We have only been here 6 weeks on a permanent move and we are in el alamillo nr puerto de mazarron and we absolutely love it. We have only visited Cartagena so cant comment on that.am sure the port area will be quieter in the winters but we don't mind that too much.good luck with whatever you decide to do

thank you for your reply Evie.

Where we live at this moment it is so so quiet that I cannot sleep.

Hope you will love Spain just like me and my hubby do. We wouldn't even contemplate moving back to the Uk. We have lived here 17 months now and loved every minute.

Obviously there are small tings that you have to get used to that are different than in the UK , but in the end you get used to those differences and just adjust.

Good Luck !

Thank you  yes we love it. We have spent the last five winters in various parts of Spain and took a chance on this area having never visited here before so we think ourselves very lucky indeed

Hi Beaniegirl, we initially wanted to buy in Javea but found it expensive. However, I do like it but what's it like to be there, for us it would be a holiday home.  Interested in your thoughts.

We almost bought in Mazzaron but decided it was a little too far from other places. MMGR is located 20mins from Cartegena, Torre de la Horadada (worth a look), Mil Palmeras.  It is also 20 mins from La Zenia boulevard and Cabo Roig.  Surprisingly the beach side of Cabo Roig is really nice, I didn't think I would like it, it being very British.  It is more developed and with better facilities, beach and coastal walks. More amenities than the Costa Calida.  Don't rule it out it's worth a look, especially if you're looking for an expat community as it is vibrant all year.

MAzzaron port is nice and lively.  Most of the new properties appear to be in the area El Alamillo not far from the port. The beach nearby at Bolnuevo is gorgeous.  I know the Main Street of Cartegena which is great, but not the surrounding areas.  Be aware if you're buying along the Mar Menor, the beach area and more importantly, the water quality has been devastated since the Gota Fria. Be aware of any flood risk areas too

Hiya Cidergirl,

... thanks for your reply with lots of info.

There is a Javea forum called Javea Connect which helps with lots of infoavea is lovely but the cost of properties have risen considerably over the past 2 years....and they are still building new properties.  There are lots of expat events going on throughout the year.

The views are gorgeous but the beaches are quite stony. Arenal beach is sandy though.

In the summer obviously its the same as anywhere here...very busy. In the winter months the port area is quiet and the Arenal end is quite

quiet too. ( In a way I  find it too quiet. ) Denia which is more Spanish over the Montgo mountain from here is more lively.

Property down on the Costa Calida is far cheaper than here. Although I think its best to rent for awhile first anyways if anyone intends to move to a different area.

.Thank you about the info on Mar Menor comments.  We don't want to move there as its more holiday home area really.

Are you saying that you live in the Cabo Roig area?
