HI

i am trying to find out if its possible to take a train journey back to the UK as my flights are constantly cancelled.

i have another flight booked for the 22nd but don't have any confidence in it actually happening. I appreciate there

is a very good train service here although is it affected by the lockdown?

Has anyone got any ideas on which trains go where and when? i 'll need to get on the eurostar i assume.

has anyone made this journey?

big thanks Ray18

I too would be interested in any information on this. I started to look at train sites, thinking it might be a viable alternative to flying, but found it to be a nightmare - unlike flying sites likes Skyscanner which quickly give you alternative routes with their costs and transfer times it seems that you must check out each section of the route and balance costs and journey times.

Hi

yes, my wife ( in UK ) and myself ( in Spain) have been trying to work out routes by train for three days and

its been very difficult.

I 'd be happy to get a train to an airport that flies direct to UK but that's proving hard work too.

if you find out anything please let me know

cheers

I don't know if it's any help but Britanny Ferries do a sailing from Santander to Portsmouth.  You can get a train from Balsicas to Madrid then Madrid to Santander.  Apparently you need the Chamartin Station in Madrid.  I'm not sure how expensive this would be - you can get a cabin on the ferry or a reclining seat I think.  I will attach a link for the train websites I saw this information on.

Also not sure if trains are reliable at the moment with the lockdown - you would probably have to check this first.

A trapped relative has just had his ferry booking (Santander/Portsmouth) for next month cancelled for the fourth time, so suggest no one spends time and effort getting to Santander. The only sure bet is to drive all the way, unless there is an affordable rail link.

Check UK news today as from this week 15th May anyone entering UK by whatever means is into 14 days own house with police visits  orvgovernment secure centres.

Yes Britany Ferries have cancelled all sailing until at least the end of May 2020.

Hope this is useful.

Flights - British Airways, KLM, Air France, Lufthansa, Wizz Air are still operating a certain number of flights, from Madrid for example; and Ryanair have just announced in the UK that they intend to resume flights from 1st July.

Trains - in addition to the issue of booking connecting trains mentioned in other responses, you would need an overnight stop and I believe that hotels, etc. in France are still closed. This would apply if you drive too...

Ferries - I had a brief look at this and Britanny Ferries are requiring everyone to book a cabin to help social distancing and the total cost for a couple with a car was around £500 (I wasn't looking for the cost for foot passengers).

Hope this helps a little!
