I don't know if it's any help but Britanny Ferries do a sailing from Santander to Portsmouth.  You can get a train from Balsicas to Madrid then Madrid to Santander.  Apparently you need the Chamartin Station in Madrid.  I'm not sure how expensive this would be - you can get a cabin...

... on the ferry or a reclining seat I think.  I will attach a link for the train websites I saw this information on.

Also not sure if trains are reliable at the moment with the lockdown - you would probably have to check this first.

Brittany ferries have cancelled all Spanish and French ferries until 15 June at the earliest.

ok thanks

yes we checked earlier and and found that they were not making commercial crossings only freight at the moment

all well, back to the drawing board. But thanks anyway.

I'm looking at getting a train as far as a flight, maybe Madrid possibly.

Hi,

Have taken the train about 18 months ago from San Sebastian to Madrid and then on from Madrid to Balsicas. Each leg was about 5 hours and first class one way fare was between €50 - €70 for each leg.
