Has anyone any experience of hiring a car in the US/Canada or India with their Spanish (EU) photo driving licence.  Some mention online a Spanish International Driving Permit is required but it is such a "pain" to get one here I don't want to go down the avenue of getting one if I really don't need it.  Thanks

Hi

I checked this on line, as I presume you did and it seems to me you do need an international driving permit.

It is understandable as our Spanish licenses are obviously in Spanish and maybe they would have trouble understanding them.

Have you looked at the possibilities of an online application form or asked your local police? Which would be my first port of call.

Marksy

Not sure that you need a year on your licence, I'm in Uk over 70 so I only have three years at best on my licence, so would have to apply in the first 2 years, and than does not seem right, I may well be wrong.
