S1 Certificates

Hi all. Hope someone can shed some light on this subject.
We are hopefully moving over in April and are in the process of getting all the documentation ready for our NLV application. We are both retired so going for the S1 form. We have been in touch with Newcastle and they have told us that they do not give out confirmation that we have applied for it. Does anybody have experience in this matter? I would think that when we go to the Consulate they will need some form of confirmation. Has anyone had the same issue?
