Hi, I am looking for some advice, we have recently purchased a property in LA in February and due to the Coronavirus have been unable to travel over to Spain but are paying direct debits for the electric and water - is this something that is taken and you can reclaim it if you don't use that much electric/water or is this a payment that is lost even though we are not using any electric or water at the moment.

Any advice would be grateful.

Thanks

Michelle

The bills are just for making the service available, and will not include any usage.

For the electricity, you will still need to pay the meter rental, which is the Spanish equivalent of Standing Charges; and for any small consumption if you have a fridge turned on, or any lights on timers, alarm system, pool pump, etc.

Almost all properties in Spain have smart meters, so you should only pay for actual consumption, not an estimated amount as you would do in the UK.

Hope this helps!

Our electric is around 28€ a month in an empty apartment...standing charge etc but no usage!
