Hi all, we’re having some work done on a house we’ve recently bought so stayed in a local hotel for a few nights which had its air con switched off, it was quite warm on the nights we stayed a few weeks ago so we made the mistake of opening our balcony door only slightly just to let a little air in and were bit to pieces every night, so apart from nets which we’ve been told don’t really work are there any trick anyone uses to stop these from happening when we stay over in our house? We’re very near the lasxsalinas and av del puerto which probably doesn’t help

Cheers

Insect nets/screen's on windows and doors/grills do work.

There are plenty of companies who fit these.or if you are reasonable at DIY you can fit yourself. Most good Ferriterias (DIY stores) will have what you need.

Personally I would not be without them.

Yes I should think they will have them. Also ask your neighbours. There are not many people who have property in Spain without Mossie screens or nets.

We started off with bed nets but then bought the netting on line and sticky back velcro (hook side of velcro) which sticks to sides of windows and door grills. These have worked for years but we are only a holiday home and are there 3 months a year approx) and are not there all year. We have to change the velcro every couple of years as the heat affects it's sticking power but all DIY stores sell this cheaply on a roll.

If we were there permanently we would do what our neighbours have done and either get it done professionally or do it properly DIY style with plastic cut to size edging and netting (from DIY stores)...once done like this it doesn't need redoing.

Hope this helps.

Some nets in the windows will do the work, much better than insecticides!

Do you get mosquitos in winter - we have just bought a property on Camposol and are coming over for 2 months from 29/12?

We don't go there in Winter but I know our neighbours take their mossie nets off their windows in Winter to keep them clean. So I really don't think so. Even cockroaches are very rarely seen in Winter. Also windows are not generally left open at night in Winter either.
