We live 7 minutes from LA on a golf resort and have never had any problems either where we live or when out and about in LA. Of course there is some crime like everywhere else and because of social media everyone knows about it. Peter Cs view is a bit extreme!
I would think again though about buying next to squatters…there are loads of properties for sale…look around a bit longer
