Still wouldn't touch Goldcar with a barge pole, as they say. Last time, and it will be the last with Goldcar, they reckoned I took the car back late and charged me an extra 48€. No time to argue (pointless anyway) as I had a flight to catch. They know that, it's all about the money.

Very difficult to pursue when they have your credit card number! In this case the girl checking in the car was extremely rude and just walked off, and I did have a plane to catch. I did contact Goldcar when I got back to the UK, and they of course didn't want to know. You can make an official complaint if you pick up a form at their office, I did that once before with another consumer problem, and the process is mind boggling. So I put it down to experience and make others aware of the problem.

It was so simple many year's ago. I remember hiring from a company called Auriga at Alicante airport, and if the return was after hours, you simply put the keys through a letter box in the side of their van at the car park! I once had a problem when they overcharged me by about 50€, so I just called into their office the next time I flew out and they handed it over in cash, no problem!

I am currently in a dispute with Goldcar they took 150 Euro from my credit card saying I had scratched the car I disputed this at the time but to no avail

My dispute has been going on since May 23rd and I have had to involve the insurance omnibus man in the Uk and am still awaiting a receipt from Goldcar for the so called repair of this imaginary  scratch.

I agree all of Mark48's points. I'd add a warning to carefully check your credit card statements each month following a hire. Dickmann's debited me insurance although I had shown an annual policy on collection. But I didn't notice until too late. I was in a queue and being hurried. I thought that I was signing for fuel deposit. Of course I'll never touch them again and I warn friends not to either

A couple of years ago I booked a car from Alicante Airport via DoYouSpain and chose Dickmans, they asked for my credit card which was a Capital One Visa, I was aware there was plenty of credit available for any situation that could arise, however Dickmans said there was no credit available on the card?? I told them to try again which they did and said again no credit? I politely asked them to try again as there must be some mistake, this they did and then in a very loud voice and mocking tone said you have no money left on your cars???

I telephoned my card company and after a very long call with various department I was transferred to the fraud department and after my insistence they informed me that I had full credit, but they would not deal with Dickmans because of the number of complaints about them withholding deposits and deducting funds without authorisation.

I did inform DYS about this but I see they still take there business.

Well I won't be using them ever again. But if anything like that happens to me in the future I'd be saying, in a very loud voice, "Well I happen to know that there's £xxxxx.00 available on that account and I advise everybody here to be very careful". There needs to be some tough EU rules covering these cowboys and soon.

I have used Goldcar several times and had never had a problem until last year. They took 150 euros from my credit card for "damage caused". I know there was no damage. After lots of emails and Tweets and eventually emailing the CEO I received some of the money back. I will never use them again
