Hi any secure way other than banks from the UK who give a crap exchange rate that can give me a good pound to euro rate please ps it must be done over the phone as I can't do internet banking.Old school yes I am but my last bank transfer was a measly 1.08 euro to the pound and the actual rate was 1.12.Thats a good profit for the bank if your transferring 1000s.

Without using internet technology, the harsh reality is that's as good as it will get for you!!

When we needed to transfer sizeable amounts of dosh to Spain about 15 years ago, we initially used a currency transfer company, documentation sent and returned by faxes (remember them?). Then my bank (First Direct) said: did we realise that they had someone "on the (trading) floor". We didn't, they could match what the other company could offer and so we used them. The rate was excellent, the fees very reasonable. If you want to transfer a substantial sum, it could be worth asking your bank specifically for a better rate.

Not sure how helpful this is as it was a long time ago and the world has moved onto internet banking!!

The best rates will almost always be for low-cost, automated online / app solutions, as the bank isn't paying someone to be available to answer your calls and complete the transaction for you. We use Revolut, which has no fees and very competitive exchange rates.

If you're not confident using online banking, is there a friend or relative you could trust to do the transfers for you? Or maybe take the plunge and learn yourself (not meant to be offensive).

We live in an increasingly online world - for example, at the moment to travel to & from UK / Spain, you need to complete locator forms online and be able to show them to border officers on your mobile phone on request.

The locator forms can printed & shown on paper.

You don't need a mobile phone.

I know, but methinks if you don't do online banking, etc. you're unlikely to have a printer? :-)
