Hi,

Backstory : We live in a fairly remote location with pretty poor Internet. Its via a Wimax service. It should give 25-30Mb download speeds but during the evening this can drop substantially (probably contention ration issues) and this is causing breakups on our streaming / IPTV solution and the bandwidth also means that its rare for us to have two TV reliably receiving IPTV at the same time.  Have tried various different VPN's (all impose a notable bandwidth overhead) and a wide range of streaming services inc mainstream iPlayer, ITVhub, More 4 etc.... through to Netflix, Pluto, Disney+ ... and even the more exotic IPTV services that provide thousands of channels.  They all suffer to some extent.

Requirement : Our house home has a large satellite dish installed. I replaced the LNB when we moved in as it was broken. With the new LNB and a (proper) Freesat box connected I get most channels.  But some of the HD channels are chopped or just too weak, with no signal lock. Especially BBC and ITV HD channels (although Chanel 5HD works well).  Knowing that BBC will be stopping SD transmission on Freesat early next year (it's all going to HD) I really want to be able to watch HD mainstream UK channels via Satellite.

Couple of questions:

Does anyone in the Roldan/Balsicas region watch UK HD TV via satellite?

What Size dish is being used in this region?

Does it break up during bad weather (I know it can occasionally, but is it frequent)?

Does anyone have a recommended Satellite person that can help if needed?

Thank you in anticipation.

Humax free sat box  with large dish in the garden ...we are just outside balsicas at tres molinos ...get HD...occasionally HD can be affected but how often is bad weather in Spain. Use 4k firestick with iptv with much the same speed as you..no real issues..we are on solar so don't even have mains electricity

Thanks jorge1306,  Our home is close to where you are :-)

More info (for those interested in this subject)

So.. I persevered after confirmation from your post that it is possible.   I have a 1.8M dish with a new Octo LNB (non-wideband)  On the Humax box (HDR-1100S) I can get a range of HD channels, but its very dependent on atmospheric conditions. Absolutely nothing on ITV2,3 & 4 on HD and no alternative on the Humax box.  On my Zgemma box (H9SE) I get the SD versions of these ITV channels. I also get a wide range of other channels, admittedly most not English speaking. I do find that the Zgemma has a better Satellite tuner and it seems to pick up and lock the HD channels better than the Humax (which is 7 year old technology) It also has a customisable interface.

Ive purchased a digital Satellite signal finder because I think the dish alignment (and LNB skew) need a slight tweak. BBC are moving ALL there content to HD starting January 2023, so I want to ensure that the signal is as good as possible, accepting that for some weather condition, interruption is inevitable

In general the (Astra 28.2 UK) Satellite reception is OK, and in combination with our IPTV we are getting good UK tv coverage.

I may treat myself to a Zgemma H9SE Twin, so I can record, time shift etc. With 'skins' it works in a very similar way to the 'Sky' type box's and (with duel booting Android) I can play IPTV directly on it and add apps like YouTube, Netflix, Prime, Disney+ etc.  I can also instal & embed a VPN connection so that all the UK Hub services, iPlayer, 4, ITVX  etc will work out here.

I think I would not get too fixated on English TV..its not really what Spain is about ...its great to have a bit of freeview and iptv through the firestick for the things you really miss but the idea you would spend hours and hours everyday watching English TV and getting a perfect picture is not what life in Spain offers ...it offers so much more
