Has anyone noticed the vast increase in quarterly bank charges in Spain 🇪🇸, ???

My bank have increased their charge from 12 euro ( quarterly) to 60 euro , unbelievable, I have had many emails from the bank to day , but not any satisfactory, , it will revert to 12 euro next year when I receive a state pension

Yes we have.

That's why we have closed our accounts & moved to the bank's that offer free banking.

Hi, yes there has been lots of different posts on here and in many of the different forums about the high and increasing bank charges. I for one changed banking to cajamar who offered a no fee wefferent account but based on information shared by others more recently this account may no longer be available or certainly it may not be as easy to open one now, I opened mine in person in September .... You have to go into the bank to open it.

Good to hear your fees revert to the much more reasonable €12 next year.....good to know that banks offer a lower fee structure for pension recipients....

Go to the search box at the top of this page and search Banking / Costa Calida.

Lots of info there.

Hi Roland and to Anni too

This is a bit of an update re Cajamar who now won't open their weferrent account for non residents in branch. I had sent 3 emails asking for them to bill our account for Non Resident Certificates to be issued as per their own conditions costing a €25 fee. Sabadell did this automatically every 2 years. They didn't reply at first hence 3 emails and then I got a call telling me they don't do them now as not required but a Non Resident statement is signed on setting up account and despite my telling them we were non residents on application our account had been stated as residents.

Well we went in branch, told agent, and he tried to remedy asking for our "UK tax ref no's" at first we couldn't offer this as pensioners and below tax allowance income we no longer do self assessments. I gave him our NI numbers as all tax letters come to us with those and after few minutes he stated it wasn't accepting the change. I, m now awaiting a call to return to branch when it's sorted. I, m telling you this so you can check if you are a non resident your account has been opened with the correct status. I am annoyed with this as we told agent we were non residents and don't have a green NIE but a White one. Also told him the customer service told us to to go into branch to do it. This is the only annoyance I, ve had with this bank. Now if a non resident, to open you have to go into branch where they will register you as a customer with a customer ref no. and you then apply online using the ref no. they gave you. As Ann has said they,ve made it a bit more difficult but still available to non residents as they have told me. This is important as I don't want any ramifications from the tax authority in the future.

Kind Regards

Pauline

Use TransferWise - completely free, no need for a Spanish bank account.....
