Hi, we have a property in San Pedro. We have never stayed in summer as we return to UK. It's really nice in winter, quiet, functions as normal, everything is open. Massive health benefits, we intend to retire next year and apply for residency, we are just letting Brexit settle. Good luck

We moved to San Pedro last year from north east Spain. Better winter weather here, more English spoken & cheaper that where we were. We find the people very nice & very helpful and there is no serious crime. If you like to walk &/or cycle there are plenty of options.

We go home for the hot months. We love Spring,  Autumn & Winter but July & Aug are too hot for us and, of course, we like to just travel back and forth and enjoy the difference.

We like the size of the town and the heart of it is very traditional. It's very easy to get around and parking is easy & even where there is a charge it's not very much. The noticeable difference is the price of electricity and from Jan I understand it has gone up 27% due to the high demand, due to lockdown. It's high where we're from too, I'd say around the same actually but many who come here find lecky very expensive.

Very good supermarkets and not far away in San Javier there is an English supermarket, Iceland so you'll find all your familiar items there.

So far we love it but, of course, last year was not typical. We find we have to to travel to Santiago de la Ribero, or Pilar de la Horadado for more restaurant choices but there are a few gems here too.  Murcia International or Alicante airports are easily reached and the high speed train is another plus.

Because of Covid we haven't been able to explore other areas like Cartagena, Murcia city &, of course Lorca as well as the many beauty spots we've been hearing about -  hopefully we will live to go to all these places in the not too distant future.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, I will be happy to help if I can.

Thanks very much for taking the time to get back to me, we are in a quandary really, as one day we think it might be possible and another day we read something that puts us off, we live in Scotland and the winters are not so good.

We have always loved Spain and the Spanish people, my husband is Austrian, so as far as the EU thing is concerned we would be ok, we were both 70 this year.

Would like to have a bit more sunshine I like what you have said about the area, someone suggested we rent before buying, so when it is possible to travel we will do that, like anywhere I suppose you have to be careful when buying.

Thanks again for your help

Denise

Yes Denise, that was good advice to rent before making a final decision. We are similar ages, just a bit older.

You are right to take your time before making any final decision. It does get very hot in July & Aug but winters are never harsh, I've been told it never stops below zero and generally at night at this time of year it's around 6/7° .

We put in a pellet burner and find it's perfect for heating our downstairs area which is open plan so a good area to heat.  It costs around €3 a day if you use it from 6pm until about midnight or so. We use electric radiators for spot heating upstairs. I was here from Feb last year and was very comfy. By the end of March we were no longer using any heating.

Hope this helps and don't hesitate to ask me if you need more information.
