I think somebody is winding you up.

I have seen signs up at Alicante airport saying show your TIE card.

But that's only so you don't need your passport stamping.

I could of course be wrong.

As I understand it, it's for people who live on the balearics, canaries and ceuta and melilla, they have subsidised travel to the mainland. The spanish government pay the subsidy not the airlines / ferry companies.

Thanks, yes I thought it could be that as there’s no option ie Murcia or any Spanish mainland area. It does however show Balearics.

Dax is correct! Ryanair doesn't subsidise anyone or anything but the Spanish government does offer travel subsidies for Spanish residents registered in the Canary Islands, Ceuta, Melilla and the Balearics, due to the distances between them and the Spanish mainland and also for "familias numerosas", which are large families. Only they can take advantage of the drop-down box to apply for these subsidies. A quick Google will give you all the relevant details, so no need to waste your time phoning Ryanair as the discounts are nothing to do with them.
