Very helpful information. Thank you! We are tenants currently so we do not have a lot of influence on the contract chosen but when we move to our new property which we own, we will definitely go for solar. As you say, the investment is worth it!

This may be a moot point, as you have said that you are moving shortly.

However, the contract for the electricity supply is between you and Iberdrola, so you could change tariff with no problems. If you are worried about your landlord, then I would simply explain the situation and confirm that they would have the option to change the tariff when they assume responsibility for the bills after you have moved out. Some tenancy contracts specify that you can't change provider, but not that you can't change tariff.

We also have had the same problem with our bills having over doubled. We went to the local Iberdrola office and they have changed us back onto the old tariff where we get 2 rates of electricity. 23:00 to 13:00 is now the cheap rate.

The new 3 tariff system was great for working families as they are out all day, but not retired people who tend to do their stuff at what’s now the most expensive periods.

We’ve only been on the new/old tariff for a week so time will tell if it makes a difference, but at least it’s far easier to understand and use.

Sorry, we were never told what it was called, but it is the same as before we went onto this new 3 low, medium and high rate system.

This is the page which shows the various plans available...

www.iberdrola.es/luz

The Night Plan appears to be the tariff that NickB has been moved to...

The landlord used to be with Iberdrola until we got hit with a bill of €700 due to their meter being faulty. So he changed to Fox Energia which is the current supplier.

This is a good point! We are also home most of the day. I did not know that it was possible to stay on old tariffs. As we are tenants, it is difficult for us to switch but we can talk to the landlord...we will be moving by end of the year to our new house which is not all electric unlike the current rental one.

I am on the new tariff of 0.156062 € per KWH and haven't noticed much difference since the switch. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment  and use on average 180-190 KWH per month. Actual energy charge for that is about 30€ and then they add on daily standard charge, tax etc which doubles the bill to around 60€ per month.

I only run the air con for a couple of hours at night in the summer but have the ceiling fan and standing fan running most of the day/night when I'm in.

Does anyone else notice a considerable increase on their electricity bill since the changes of tariffs?

Just received the latest bill covering August. With the same levels of consumption as July, I am now paying double of what we paid at the same time last year. We don't even use the washing machine during the week! €172 for 1 month takes us back to the levels we paid before privatisation...the g...

...ood old days of Iberdrola! So what has changed apart from new electricity providers' names? They were adamant that our bills would not be effected with the new system! They even sent a letter to reassure us!!

Moving in to a new house soon, we will definitely look into going all solar...

We are with Iberdrola on their "Stable Plan" and our electricity bill has gone down.

We are on a 5.5kW supply which entitles us to a reduction in IVA down to 10% for energy supplied, plus we get a 10% consumption discount.

If you are on a contracted supply of > 10KW you do not get the reduction in IVA.

Our unit price (kW/€ is 0.145303) has gone up very slightly since the new changes but with the reduction in IVA from 21 to 10% it has made our bills cheaper, so we are quite happy.

We are tenants also but just asked landlord to put it in our name and just had our first bill for Aug at €100 with ibedrola on their night plan . So not too bad
