Hello everyone, I lost my husband to cancer in January, just before his 40th birthday. I’ve had the most wonderful life for many years but need to start again now.
I’ll hopefully be completing a purchase soon; a project on a little house that called out to me. I took a risk, if the past year has taught me anything, it’s that life is too short not to!

My brother will be coming along with me initially and helping with renovations.

Any tips on anything Bullas or Mercia would be gratefully received as, (would you believe it), I’ve never visited!

I will be looking for work, any work at all, as I’m physically fit, I have a BA in Childhood studies, 20 years teaching experience and 10 years management experience.

I write as a hobby and love being outside among nature and animals.

I’d particularly be grateful for information on the transport links, in order to get to a larger range of job opportunities.

Thank you in advance!

Sarah

Join all the relevant facebook pages for your area and expat page...there is also a Ladies of Spain group where there may be regular meetups in your area and there may be other ladies local to you.

You really need a car to get around, public transport is sparse and not very reliable.

Unless you speak Spanish you will find it difficult to get any work unless you are prepared to take low paid bar work etc.....good luck..btw its Murcia!

Hello Sarah

So sorry to hear of your loss, and happy for you that you have decided to enter a new life with such enthusiasm. May I recommend you read as many of "Jims Guides" which will give you loads of information regarding every subject you can think of for living in Spain. In any post, top left corner is a Menu tab, select and scroll down to "Jims Guides" and Voila! every subject worth knowing. I am assuming you will be going for residencia to live full time in Spain so read the latest procedure for a TIE, which needs starting as soon as possible to obtain residencia by January 2021. If you have sold a Uk property this year, its important to know you need to be in Spain this same year less than 183 days as you will be subject to CGT on that sale and your worldwhile assets. So you can obtain your residency but spend more than 6 months (in total) out of Spain and then next year will be your first fiscal year and CGT not applicable. Remember to include all days already spent in Spain this year. I,m not in your area so cant add any info but you,ve been given some good recommendations, also visit Town Hall and see if they have free Spanish lessons and any other information for new residents. I wish you the best of luck, you deserve it and hope everything lives up to your expectations

Regards

Pauline.

Hi Sarah, sorry for your loss, Bullas is a lovely town and there is quite a lot to see locally, there is a regular hourly bus service between the bigger towns into Murcia city, it is very comfortable, reliable and cheap. But you really do need a car for any other travel, especially if you needed hospital visits or such. Also visiting the Ferreteria or buulders merchant for your renovation materials. With the end of the transition period looming then your priority is to get your TIE card, a Gestor can arrange to help you for around100€, you will also need to exchange your driving licence for a Spanish one before Dec 31 or face the prospect of talking a Spanish driving test. As someone else has pointed out work is very limited for non-Spanish speakers, but as you have chosen to live in a Spanish inland town I assume that you are willing to learn the language. I live in Mula, the next town down the valley towards Murcia, I know the area quite well so would be happy to answer any specific questions you may have.

best wishes for your new venture.

John
