Have been advised by some expats that its important to get a separate Will written up in Spain as the laws are very different from the UK should anything happen to myself or my husband.

Does anyone have any knowledge on this. Does a Will composed in the UK (if it included details of the property owned in Spain) not suffice?

If it is imperative to obtain a Spanish Will, recommendations for a legal company who would deal with this would be helpful.

TIA

Spanish laws on inheritance and succession are very different to the UK, so if you want to have control over what happens to your assets on death it is safest to have a Spanish will, starting out with a clause that UK laws should apply. It should be a simple document and not cost much. We did ours in Andalucia many years ago so I cannot advise on who to use up here, sorry.

Absolutely necessary.  No where near as expensive as uk wills either. As mentioned by another person must state "under UK law"  all wills are kept in a central registry too.  Our joint will only cost €100. .and was written in Spanish and English. We used our local Spanish hospital translator who knew the correct notary to go to.

Go direct to the notary and not pay someone else to do it as it is cheaper. There is a very good notary by Food Co in mazzaron Park. If you stand in the food co car park looking at the furniture shop take the road to the right and it is at the end just passed the little bar.

I endorse that advice fully. My wife and I had our wills done by a Notary (2 wills in English and Spanish) for €115 just two weeks ago. Excellent service. We had been quoted almost €400 by a legal office. .

As a general rule you should only use a solicitor (lawyer/abogado) if you need defence in a court, or you want to sue someone. For everything else use a gestor that specialises in what you want doing - property transfers, vehicle changes etc. if your financial affairs are simple do the tax return yourself.

You need to contact them first to make an appointment and get a quote. Typically, they will send you a form to complete to give them the information they need to create the Wills in the terms you would wish. It's a good idea to ask to see drafts of the Wills in advance to eliminate any mistakes. Then it's just a matter of turning up for the appointment and signing.
