Well, that'll get quite a few people worried - and not before time!
A quote taken from that 'news report'.
"The Spanish police since last month have been in training on how to capture evaders after March 31st with prepared detention centres already set up to take offenders before issuing large fines and preparing deportation back to the UK."

The law for EU citizens is actually 183 days in a year
The law is maximum of 90 days then you have to leave for 90 days before returning.

Sorry but you can stay up to 90 days, you should register if you are going to be in Spain over 90 days, but if you leave before the 90 days you can return and again spend 90 days, a trip to Portugal or France terminate the no of days and then you can start again.
Spainsh law as I understand it is you have to register if you intent to spend over 90 days in Spain.
This does not apply to UK passport holders only Eu Citizens

No it isn't for EU citizens. Look it up.

Think you have the wrong end of the stick here. Yes you can stay in any European country for up to a MAXIMUM of 90 days in 180 as non EU passport holder. For Spain if you overstay the 90 days by one day you are automatically “ enrolled” into their tax system (unless you have previously applied for residency). Also you could be fined and banned from EU travel again. You must leave any European country for 90 days before you are allowed to return for a further 90. We are now a third listed country since Brexit and as such we abide by the law and rules of that title. Only Europeans can stay in Europe and the UK for 182 days without having to leave after 90 days. Note that the UK has allowed EU citizens to stay here for 182 days— where is the level playing field here. Jaz.
