My UK civil partner and I are due to retire in two years' time. We will each have pensions which will amount to a total of about €36000 per year between us. I believe this is roughly equivalent to IPREM X 5.

We also have a savings account with approximately 75,000 in it.

Would this count as adequate income to obtain NLV?

Also, most sources indicate you need private healthcare insurance but is this needed in the case of UK state pension recipients with S1 entitlement?

Finally is UK Civil Partnership Certificate acceptable or do you need a marriage certificate.

I have had conflicting replies to all of these questions.

Thank you.

Hi

I completed the NLV process in May 2021, renewed in 2022 and I'm due my next renewal in May 2024 (how time flies!).

Your means of maintenance (income) is absolutely fine.

If you are of UK state pension age and take your UK state pension, then you should be able to get an S1 and this is acceptable as an alternative to private healthcare insurance.

I moved out with my partner - with no formal relationship (i.e. not married on in a Civil Partnership) and this was not raised as an issue. The only extra thing we were required to do was for me to sign a sworn & notarised document that I was financially responsible for my partner (as most of our assets and income were in my sole name).

Hope this helps!

Thank you Rich.

That is useful and reassuring to hear.

We just completed our first NLV last September.  Cash wise you are fine.

We needed private health as I am 56 and my wife although taking a private pension is 61.

Our understanding of the rules are that you can get on the Spanish health system once one of you reaches the official retirement age of your country of origin or if you have been in Spain 5 years.

My other advice would be don't waste money on a solicitor to help you get the visas. It's a pain but fairly straightforward as long as you are methodical.

Thank you very much for the advice, it is much appreciated.
