Spanish 'road tax'

I bought a car last year, so I am liable for the 'road tax' for this year.
Can someone explain how this works please ?

The road tax is due for whoever owns the car on the 1st January. The easiest way is to go to your ayuntamiento with the car details and set up a direct debit. Different councils take the money at different times. Last year Los Alcazares took ours on the 5th May.

Hi, Peter is correct, but we couldn't/didn't go down this route because our council wouldn't accept direct debit from our Transferwise account and we refuse to set up a Spanish bank account due to the crazy monthly charges. We arranged to get an email from the council when the car tax is due then we can visit or phone them to pay. Just an alternative method if you need it.

Hi. Our area (Murcia) collect in April so we are assuming an email will drop to inform us in the next week or so 🤞 but we have told them we want this email notification, so you'd have to tell them that. Otherwise, I've no idea how they would inform you.

I've just received mine by post this week (I live near Lorca). It states that it has to be paid by 20th May 2022.
I paid online easily and it feels like a bargain at €24.47.

They also first refused to take my council Tax as Direct Debit through Wise until I said I would report them then they asked for my Wise account details.🤞It does come out this year I had Email to say changed account details.
