I don't know what's happened to the free movement of goods within the EU. Spain doesn't seem to obey the rules. As it cost me 1200 France to Spain

Unless you bring your car over with you as part of your one-off permanent move to live in Spain, you need to pay Import Duty; possibly IVA (VAT); and car registration tax.
Import Duty is generally 10%, based on the vehicle's original purchase price with an annual depreciation against that. The car registration tax is a variable, again based on the original new purchase price of the car (not just the price you may have paid for it, if bought used), with depreciation; and its emissions. You also need to 'matriculate' the car - it needs to pass a Spanish ITV (equivalent of MOT); be registered in Spain, new registration plates and probably changes to the headlights (this matriculation process costs around £1,000).
You will then need to be comfortable driving a right-hand drive car on the 'wrong' side of the road, which, while perfectly legal & possible, does tend to make overtaking more risky and causes inconvenience at toll booths, car park barriers, etc.
I wonder if your question about bringing the car via Ireland is based on the free movement across the NI / Eire and then an expectation that as the car is then in the EU, there would be no Import Duty to take it to Spain? You could try, but you would need to at least re-register the car in Eire and then explain that to Spanish customs and DGT (transport department) when you matriculate the car, where I would suspect you would be caught and fined in addition to paying the duty.
If you bring in a car from the EU, you do not have to pay Import Duty, but you still need to pay the car registration tax and for matriculation.
Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, even before Brexit. Importing a UK or indeed any country into Eire required paying VRT which was our country's way of getting around import duty they simply renamed it Vehicle Registration Tax . We have a unique way of interpreting EU rules usually to the disadvantage of Joe Soap!!

Sounds reasonable. Can Zi ask if you car was registered in the ROI or NI?
