You are being unfair about Spanish banks - they rip off both resident and non-residents alike!

You don't need a Spanish bank account these days.

Hi Roland,thanks for your reply..and this would ve my thoughts too..that because of all of the on- line Banking methods using SEPA which broadly is Single European Payment Area..and most Banks are part of this ehere IBan and Bic No are recognised..but I still from Estate agents and others am told .to pay utilities eg..water .electricity..and other such..that it is a requirement to have a Spanish Bank account ..can anyone comment further..? It may be different for UK residents living in Spain because your Bank account would be in a different currency other than Euro . More advice if possible! Thanks to all.

The estate agents & others a wrong, you do not need a Spanish bank account at all.

They are just trying to protect their own interests when telling you they need a Spanish IBAN code

It is actually against the law for a Spanish company not to accept the Belgian IBAN code, which Wise.com have.

I am completely with you on this Rowland. .bht lets say you go to the town hall .or whatever method ones goes trough to said up a direct debit to pay any utilities..and they ask for Bank details..and one gives any Banking method that uses SEPA..they will flatly refuse to recognise it ..( be it they do break EU Laws by doing this) and will say its a requirement to have a Spanish Bank account .so what then one get into a whole Legal rangle. Rowland.a personal question .are you paying your utilities without a Spanish Bank account? All join in,be ause any information is useful with regards to this..and better still .expierences ! 

I use Wise for all my Spanish DD & have done for the last 2 or 3 years.

Lots of people on this forum use Wise for their DD's.

Ok .thank for that..I actually just updated a old Account I had with them..but I think N26 Banking should also be accepted.and  Revolut ..which I think are also as they are accepted as they are all part of SEPA.

We had a Sabadell Bank account which was opened when we bought apartment.I closed this around 2 months ago after opening Wise account due to Sabadell charging €40 every couple month just for my Direct Debits.If anyone refuses to accept  Wise to have Direct Debits paid from you can report them to Wise.As should be able to accept as part on International Sepa scheme.

The Spanish Bank knows it is wrong not to accept and allow Utility Account to be set up for Payment like Direct Debit .etc. .but they dont want to cooperate because ghey will loose money themselves by allowing in On - Line Banks. I wanted a monthly payment to be made into N26 Account here in Ireland..but the company marking this Payment would not proceed because in there own words .this is not a Irish Bank and we cannot accept this Iban No. and this came from a semi- State body . This is what is happening in Spain as well
