Sorry can't answer your question, but in Spain I,ve read a 2nd hand vehicle has to be roadworthy for a period of time(I think 6mnths) if a major fault develops. This applies to all sellers, not just companies but private sellers too. You should look into this. Sold as seen is still the motto of the day but you have rights regarding faults.

Hola    Sounds as your steering  fluid has gone   now yes you do have time to report defects    but this will take time and a lot of stress

(I bought a car from Specialist Vehicles  the engine blew up after two weeks     all they need do is ignore you    as they know the length of time

it takes to get into court,   all used car dealers work on the same way of thinking )      regardless of what ever law

so buy some    automatic  gear box oil    (close to  the proper fluid)   top up your container     leave it a while    now look under the car  to see

if any leaks        if all is dry    now try the steering     (it will take a while)   see if any better                  if not

then try a garage    it is around €600   for a new rack       I kept my Volvo running on olive oil    until the new steering rack was fitted

Not sure if the M garage is open   the owner went into hospital   but try and manage         (from Los Alcazares   go towards San Javier    take the motorway from the Arches     then exit on next turning       go towards  San Javier     you can see the large  M )

Hi

The Fiat Punto has been fitted with electrical powered steering for some time. Apparently since 2001 !

It's possible the fault is very simple. It might just be a fuse or a poor connection. I had a similar fault on our Mercedes. One of the connectors to the powered steering rack was corroded. It was a simple cheap fix. Three years on & no problems.
Hopefully your issue will also be simple. It could be a bad steering rack & that would not be cheap
Get the car to a decent, independent workshop.

Then insist on recovering the cost of repair from the dealer you bought the car from. Unless of course, it's a decent dealer, who will sort the issue out, at no cost to you.

“Unless of course, it's a decent dealer, who will sort the issue out, at no cost to you. ” or you were unwise enough to buy privately.

It wasn't rude at all and may have helpfully pointed the OP in the right direction.
