I've driven from Calais to Spain many times and never use the toll roads. The main routes in France are excellent with many up to motorway standards. True you do go through some towns and villages, but you see more of France than you would on a boring toll road. Tolls in Spain have been reduced and completely removed between I think, 22.00 to 06.00hrs. Again no need to use them. I've just done a lot of miles on the A7, a perfect road with few vehicles, why would you want to use the AP7?
