Living in Los Nietos

I'm considering buying a budget property somewhere along the Costs Calida, perhaps to retire to.

I like the sound of Los Nietos as being less developed and less commercialised and maybe being less touristy, particularly in the winter months.

I've "walked" the streets in Google Maps and from pictures, there seem to be many closed up properties - some seem to be bricked-up - and I've read articles about run-off into the Mar Menor from the surrounding agriculture.

Is anyone able to comment on living in Los Nietos, either all year round or for part(s) of the year ?

especially
* cleanliness of the water (summer and winter) to swim in
* personal crime
* vandalism/property crime - especially while property is not being used

Many thanks for your help !

I think it is every ones personal taste, you have to visit Los Nietos and feel it.

In my opinon the only positive side is the train to Cartagena.

Are you talking about Los Nietos, located close by Los Alcázares? If so it is true that Los nietos outside of summer holiday season is really quite, most of the houses are closed. Personally I prefer San Javier especially if you plan to stay all year or also come outside of summer season. San Javier is not a touristic village/town at all, but outside of summer season all shops remain, there is moral local people than tourists and as a result most of the houses are occupied all year. It is only 5kms from Los Nietos.

i think youre confusing Los Nietos with Los Narejos!! Los Nietos is about half an hour away and around 30kms! Near to Cartagena, but agree that San Javier/ Santiago de la Ribera is a better choice!!

We have an apartment in Los Nietos, it's a very Spanish village, but to be able to participate to the life of the village you need to have some Spanish, the AAV is very actif and organise many activities almost every weekend, I love the place

Los Nietos is a nice place to live. It has a Doctors Surgery, a small train to take you to the city and to the hospital if needed. It is generally a quiet village. We have a home for sale if you are interested in gathering information. You will like it here I am sure.
