The beaches are fine. The community workers clearing every day the algae from the Mar Menor.

Because it’s just 9th of January no one is swimming. But Fishermen are out and on the floating jetties are the anglers.

There are now lots of “actions” from the authorities that the nitrates from the surrounding field are not pouring into the sea. i.e., They banned on the field’s fertilizer. So, in the future their will only be BIO farming.

The problems with the Mar Menor have been going on years, with little improvement. I think Los Urrutias is worse than say Los Alcazares.  The whole of the Mar Menor has lost its blue flag status a few years ago.

I have a holiday home close to the Mar Menor but drive always 20mins north where there are much nicer beaches on the Med.  I will not swim in the Mar Menor.  It’s so sad as it looks beautiful. If moving wasn’t so expensive I’d move.  When I bought 6 years ago it had Blue Flag status. I should have done more research.

Do your research, there is probably plenty online. These places are cheap for a reason.

I’d advise renting and exploring the whole area.
