Hi anyone on here recommend banking with Cajamar ?

Hi,

We have an account with Cajamar in San Javier, and regularly use the one in Sucina. I have found both extremely helpful, both having an excellent English speaker.

The young lady in Sucina actually put on her coat and scarf to go outside to show us how to pay a bill using the A T M.

Can't imagine that happening in the U K. (even if you can actually find a bank !!)

Hi , Just a couple of points for Cajama bank . If you deposit 1000 in a saving account you don’t get bank charges , If you become a resident you have inform them bank and then buy 3 shares at 187 euros for the three shares , but you still have to pay bank charges of 30 euros per three months if I’m not mistaken .

Two year now with Cajamar changed from Bankia because of high fees  never looked back only fee we pay is for a new card we only have one between us to save money, when we opened the account we had to put €1005 into something like a cooperative that doesn't make interest but if you close the account you get it back, no fees to pay if you use your card I think it is 40 times a year which is easy especially in bars and resteraunts                they also set up all our direct debits for us whilst in the bank  the online app is brilliant so easy the other day

Just opened a cajamar account for myself and my wife. Told that as a cooperative Bank you have to have a share each. So that was 183 euros per person. If you also have a savings account with a 1000 euros in it there are no bank charges. At first I tried to open the wefferent on line account thinking it was available to non residents but you had to input a Spanish phone number so that excluded me! I suppose I could have got a Spanish SIM but that rather defeats the object of the exercise!

As said earlier we have not paid a cent in fees in 3 years nor have had any conditions applied or having a second account. We are non residents, signed paperwork to state such. On opening in March 2019 we deposited our balance of €2600+ from closing Sabadell and it went into our current account despite agent surprised we didn't want a savings account with that amount. We never go below €1000, and no fees at all. Best move we ever made.

So it doesn't matter whether the 1000 is in current or savings. We were told that's where it had to be. No problem though. We are also ditching Sabadell!

Drat, forgot to add I do have a Spanish sim in my dual sim phone just in case of emergency ie. should my UK one not work for whatever reason, possible signal loss etc and its a Hits mobile sim and costs me €10 a year max. As said never use it outgoing as my UK sim still free roaming, and it automatically tops up if balance goes below €5 but it enables the bank to send messages and for both of us(they registered the number for both of us) so sometimes get twice the messages. No expense to quibble to have that service and backup. Google Hits mobile, they even post out the sim and have English speaking agents.

Things were differrent 3yrs ago, we were explained it was a cooperative bank and offerred an account called "360" which would pay us interest but we declined as rate too small, and just wanted to keep a sizeable balance in our current account. We weren't asked to buy shares, but I think that's only for residents. The agent also opened the account for us which I believe they now give you an ID that allows you to apply online and open the account. We both have a debit card free of charge, but some people say only 1 card is free? If I had to put into a savings account to keep free its still a small price to pay as it still is your money and over the years we were with Sabadell our fees were excess of 2000€..

Hi,

It's me that answered the original entry.

As I said, I can only recommend Cajamar, I have never experienced the problems other people seem to have, we are not residents, but have property in La Tercia, and a Spanish phone.

Sorry if I've confused things, but I can only stick to my original comments.
