Apologies to those that already know this, but I have had 2 near misses in my car last week and today, because cyclists just think they can cycle along the pavement and then straight onto a pedestrian crossing to cross the road without even stopping/looking.

This is NOT the case. All cyclists must dismount when using a pedestrian crossing to be considered eligible for a vehicle to stop for them.

If there is an accident because the cyclist did not dismount then the cyclist will be held responsible.

" the cyclist will be held responsible." If you have the whole incident on dashcam plus signed statements from as many witnesses as possible.

As a group, I find cyclists totally irresponsible and they think traffic laws do not apply to them.

I agree, & not only in Spain.

It's getting to the point that all cyclists should have a registration number on their cycles so that they can be identified in case of an incident.

I am a leisure cyclist and a car driver. I had an instance recently whilst driving where a man on a cycle pulled out in front of me at a roundabout (I was already on the roundabout) and I managed to stop before I hit him, but was greeted with a look that said "WTF are you doing on my roundabout". As a cyclist in the same situation, I wouldn't dream of pulling straight out in front of a car like that.

Also, it is not just cyclists on pedestrian crossings, many pedestrians just walk straight across the crossing without looking or waiting for cars to slow or at least show some sign they have seen them. Again, as a pedestrian, I would not just walk out onto a crossing until I thought the car driver had seen me and at least started to slow.

I have also had the situation where I have crossed at a crossing and one of the lycra brigade has decided he is not slowing and had to ride around me - I was of course prepared for him to stop.

Just a suggestion maybe when owning a bicycle to make it compulsory to have public liability Insurance in case of accidents, then if found  cyclist cause the accident Insurance pays costs to the injured party, and the cyclists Insurance premium goes up the next year.Would make them think twice about such a gunho attitude while cycling on the road. Just saying.
