How long have you lived in Spain? and used the bank, they may help if you speak to them, or not? however you will be required to become a resident due to Brexit, again subject to how long you have been here, or stay here, and change your bank account to a residents account.

I transfer from hsbc to currency direct then to Spanish bank

I looked at the Cajamar bank online this morning. It's a shame most of the info is only in Spanish and large pdf's are difficult to translate. I thought I'd email them and ask a couple of questions but that failed using their online form because I don't have a Spanish phone!!

Has anyone on here who holds an account with them had problems accessing and understanding their account online?

Same here, after numerous people advising to open cajamar wefferent but all in Spanish???

Just had the same problem with my Caixabank. last week

Its just another little legal money making scam the banks now use to make more money.

When I transferred money (12,000 euros) from my UK bank to my Spanish bank for my wifes car I noticed 45 euros was taken for commission.

I then and looked at the monthly standing order of 1,130 euros and I found 15 euros taken for commission.

When I questioned my bank about it they said it was because as of 1st January 2021 the UK was no longer in the EU so charges can be made when using a UK bank transfer.

I asked, but why has this only happened from August this year 2023. They could not answer this.

This is the extract that by bank gave me to justify the charge, but you will need to translate it.

“The United Kingdom stopped being member of the European Union on 1 January 2021, which means that European regulations, including the one regarding transfers (Regulation CE924/2009), no longer apply. As a result, the fees that correspond to international transfers from outside the European Union will apply to transfers that are destined for or originate from bank accounts opened in the United Kingdom. You can check these fees in the price list contained in the appendix of your savings account contract.”

This is one of the reasons I left Sabadell also ever increasing rate to keep your money in the Bank as non residence .

I moved to Bankinter no charge for sending money to them , use one of the app Banks TorFx or XE Currency or Currency Direct they are all easy to set up and far better rate than UK Banks will give you.

I would check the Sabadell contract you pay them every 1/4 to hold your money that should cover money going in.

Best regards Andy Williams
