As someone said before, Balsicas train station is not running at this time. There's a bus provided by Renfe that picks up passengers from or to  Balsicas train station to the applicable train station. Whether your origen or destination is Balsicas-Mar Menor, Renfe is responsible for getting ...

...you there at no extra cost. If you want to avoid bus/train combo, you can directly travel by bus. A link of buses was given earlier or Google buses from...to Balsicas & viceversa...

Hope it helps.

There is no information on the Renfe website regarding the Cartagena - Murcia line being closed and alternative transport being offered, so please could you post the actual information that you have on this? The only comment noted on the Renfe website regarding the Balsicas to Murcia line is to warn wheelchair users who are using their own wheelchairs, that there may be some complications for them when they arrive in Murcia. However, the C2 line from Murcia del Carmen - Lorca Sutullena - Águilas IS closed and subject to alternative forms of transport to and from Murcia del Carmen and has been noted on the Renfe website as out of action since October 2021.

Thank you for clarifying that Michael. I had assumed the works were only temporary. That's a shame as I presume getting buses will take longer and driving might be easier in that case.

Update on Balsicas station! The Balsicas station is alive and well and has trains running regularly every day. We've just been up there and there are no works on that line, nor are any planned for the near future. The works are on the Aguilas - Murcia line, as I mentioned previously. The line between Murcia and Cartagena, on which Balsicas is located midway, is not part of the "Cercanías" rail system and comes under "Media Distancia", so that's why Balsicas station doesn't come up if searching on the "Cercanías" part of the Renfe website. If you click on "Viajar" and on to "Trenes Avant y Media Distancia", the box will come up for the stations that you want to travel from and to and Balsicas comes up in that list. There are various choices of tickets and available trains, depending on where you want to go. For the "free tickets" (Abonos Renfe) offer, you must register in advance on the Renfe website and then apply for the abono, which is then valid until 31st. December. You have to pay a "deposit" of 10€ per abono (per person), which is refundable if you have travelled 16 times or more in that period. Unless you plan to do a lot of journeys, then I think that we can safely assume that the 10€ will not be refunded but will definitely get you the otherwise "free" journeys that you plan to make. For people who like to travel by train, it's also worth taking out one of the Renfe discount cards, such as the Tarjeta Dorada for people over 60, which gives pretty good discounts on every ticket that you buy. These cost 6€ and are valid for a year. The English Renfe website is quite different to the Spanish website, so for the best offers, go to the Spanish site!

As I said in a previous post, Balsicas is part of the Media Distancia rail network, so you need to go to that part of the Renfe website and then you can put Balsicas into the search section. Hopefully this link will work for you: https://www.renfe.com/es/es/viajar/prepara-tu-viaje/trenes-media-distancia-avant/billetes-avant-media-distancia
