The showers have very small water traps. There is a spray you can use to squirt down after a shower and also the overflows on sinks. It is made for this purpose and comes with a plastic straw  (like WD 40)

Another way (which I did) was to but the drip feeders that fit onto old soft drinks bottles, then set the drip on the plug and let it drip every few mins to keep the trap water level.

It'll be air in the drains! As previously mentioned, the Spanish drains are not equipped with traps and as soon as the residual water has evaporated, the air starts to come back up the drain, bringing the smell with it. We have a brand new house and one of our shower rooms has had a smelly drain ...

...since day one. I just run some water down it and the smell goes away. It's annoying but not life-threatening!

Hi,

We had the same issue in our residence. Only a few owners had smell problems and others not at all.

Problem completely solved with a modification to the global sewage system: siphons were installed in the basement / garage (1 per 4 or 6 appartments).

Much the same advice as others have suggested. My husband always puts masking tape over the shower plug holes and plugs in sinks and we now don't get the smells upon our return. Hope this helps.

One other thing to consider is if your toilet has a round metal plate close to it in the floor/tiles, it's sometimes worth unscrewing and cleaning out the pipe underneath and then sealing it back down.
