I have never been to Murcia before and interested In the area being our live-forever home.  Especially Aguilas. We are the type of ex-pats (immigrants really) that don’t want to be in an area of ‘little England’ type mentality but rather a mix of having English speaking AND Spanish friends. Am I thinking of the right area? Sell me it?!

We have recently bought an apartment in Aguilas ( Los Collados). Although we haven't a great deal of experience of the area it's certainly very Spainish a reason why we chose this location. The town has no British bars etc. It has a year round buzz with beautiful beaches. What's not to like.

I lived in The costa brava for 20 years.

We came to Aguilas for a holiday and fell in love with this wonderful spanish town

It has multiple beautiful beaches...restaurants...bars...harbour...shops....spanish life at it's best.

It was important to us to have good transport facilities.

Aguilas has it's own bus station and railway station.

My advice come but RENT for 6 months minimum. See the place in summer and winter...do it...nothing lost everything to gain.

I emigrated with my husband from Birmingham UK to Urbanización Los Collados, Aguilas in January 2020.  The location is perfect if you want to be just outside the hustle and bustle of the town but only a few minutes away by car.  We love the fresh mountain air, the quietness and the beautiful walks along the shoreline.  The neighbourhood has very few English people, we have mostly met Germans and Dutch immigrants who have been very friendly.  We wish we had done more to learn Spanish before we came because communication is very difficult with shop assistants and local tradespeople etc. They are very patient and helpful with no hint of resentment at our lack of knowledge of their language.  Spaniards here are happy to converse through the phone app ‘Googletranslate’.   We have found lovely restaurants, are able to buy great fresh fruit and veg from the vibrant Saturday market and have plenty of supermarkets to choose from - Carrefour, Aldi and best of all Mercadona on the sea front.  Our dream was to create a place in the sun for our family to visit and share with us, but for the time being with travel restricted due to Covid19  we feel very safe and supported by the local Tourist Office, police and especially our estate agent, Lorena of GoGo Estates who is a real diamond and provides superb after sales support well beyond the usual boundaries.  If you are serious about moving here, I recommend you contact her.

I lived in Aguilas for two years working. Great people. Mostly a Spanish working town but plenty of xpats   Good beach. Some great food places. Busy. Not too touristy. But it might take a while to assimilate into the local scenes both Spanish and Xpat. Not a small town. Possibly would be better to start in a smaller community if you are new to the area. Depends on what you need and your background. Good luck anyway. It’s a good place

Aguilas is a typical Spanish holiday resort in July and August!  The rest of the year it is a small town, busy with it's own affairs and friendly towards English and others whom they come across.  Murcia is a small province but near to airport at Alicante and a new one at Corvera.  It has connection to a new motorway which runs from Vera to Cartegena AP7.

Lots of small shops, branches of Carrefour and Mercadona, a six screen cinema, several sports halls and swimming pools plus a marvellous beach front and promenade.  There are three medical centres and a hospital, San Raphael at Lorca, the next town inland.

You would find lots of flats to rent or buy and many houses or villas too in the nearby countryside, many ex pats having gone back to UK following Brexit!  Many bargains to be had!  Our agents are Urci, one of the biggest in Aguilas, and very obliging, one of the managers, Domingo, speaks English.

If I can assist you in any way, do not hesitate to call me again.  Use the private line if you want mobile number or email!  Best of luck, Rosemar

Hi Annioke!  We live in Aguilas, about an hour away from you!  We have been in Spain for 16 years now, moved from our villa in the country 18 months ago and now rent a fourth floor flat overlooking the sea.

My husband is my carer, as I have motor neurone disease.  My feet do not want to work, so I am in a wheelchair.  Otherwise I am well !

Be pleased to chat and exchange
