Hi all.

Myself and my partner have always planned to retire to Spain, however, we're getting itchy feet and are considering the move within the next 4 years. The plan was to take early retirement to a small village in perhaps 15 years but life's too short to wait around! If we move sooner we would need to work, hence the idea of an urbanisation with many expats to offer advice and support.

My concerns would be our children who will be 18 and 20 ( both with have completed college) and finding work. At the moment we don't speak Spanish but will be learning. We will be mortgage free but we will obviously need an income.

We're desperate for a fresh start and a new adventure but it will need to be the right area for it to work for us as a family, as I guess it is for everyone.

My partner and son have a house/garden maintenance business, I work with the elderly living with dementia and am also a beauty therapist/makeup as is my daughter. What are our realistic chances of setting up perhaps in Camposol?? I'm probably living in Cuckoo land but it would be really helpful to hear people's advice! Thank you very much!

Unfortunately the recession in Spain is on going.

I personally would not take young adults to Spain unless they were fluent and had jobs secured .

I’ve owned a house in Calabardina for 12 yrs and it’s a lovely holiday home . We only get 8 weeks rental a yr .

I would retire there on a pension but would not rely on an income . Sorry but I would hold out for a bit . Sharon

Hi Sharon.

Thanks so much for your reply. I was thinking as much but was hoping I was just being negative!

I guess I'll have to be patient...not one of my strong points unfortunately!

Thanks again

Carla x

Yes there is not much work here, but it is do able and can be a great life. Although I would say maybe not Camposol with teenagers. Look to be nearer the coast. Everyone has their own opinions and this is only mines. Don’t discount your future pkans

Thank you!  I'm under no illusion it would be easy and plain sailing from the word go. As you say, knowing it's not impossible is a great start! We thought of Camposol as we know we'll need a certain amount of expat community spirit but we're open to suggestions about more suitable places. X

Your first problem is that you need to make the move before Brexit, after that you will probably not be allowed to reside here permanently which will limit your visits to a maximum of 90 days per year.

The other problem is do you really want to bring 2 teenagers here. Unemployment is 54% and that is for spanish speaking people. They would have no chance of getting a job let alone a career.

Thanks for your reply. We didn't originally plan to work in Spain, hence making the move when we retire. Our children would then be established here and enjoy regular visits. At the moment they both want to make the move with us, sooner rather than later but this could change. In an ideal world we would set up a family run business and have had afew ideas that could work as long as we do our homework and get decent legal advice and hear from people who have been in a similar situation. It's very early stages for us and indeed may choose to move elsewhere but we have to start somewhere.... Thanks again for your reply

Carla you need to come over and rent for a couple of weeks and see what Camposol has to offer. There are openings for gardening and beauticians that come up at times. I have been visiting Camposol for 11 years I don't speak a great deal of Spanish but muddle through OK. There is a lot of red tape in the Spanish system which you would encounter wherever you went. But only by visiting and seeing for yourself for a couple of weeks, will you be able to make a decision on whether it is for you.Other peoples opinions can be helpful to a degree but first hand knowledge is crucial for any decision making.

Thank you. I couldn't agree more about renting for a period of time beforehand which is definitely something we would do wherever we choose. Great advice, thanks again..
