We will be moving to Spain in the near future and taking our own car. It’s a VW convertible so doesn’t allow any room for the stuff we want to take with us. Can anyone tell me the best options for getting our household stuff transferred to Spain? We live near Edinburgh and I’ve been looking into one way van hire but would appreciate any advice anyone can offer. Thanks. Edit - should add that we’re not looking to bring furniture with us, just clothes, ornaments, record player (yes Vinyls are back :-)) etc. Thanks.

We moved from Yorkshire. I could only find 2 companies  for one way hires . we found the cheapest way was to do a 2 day hire in England and drive to the hq of the one way hire company . the one we used was in Dorset and I think the other one is in the midlands.

A friend drove us down and gave us a hand transferring from one van to other. And then returned the English van,

it was by far the cheapest option, but a bit of messing around.

Thanks for your feedback York’s. That’s certainly worth considering.

Do you really need one way hire, would a removal firm not work for you? We used used EuropeanMoving  a lwb luton and driver cost us someting like £1600, from Wiltshire, guess you would need to add more for the extra mileage. I belive they also do part loads as well, should work out cheaper? However you manage it have a good journey over.

Thanks Phil Tox. Another good option we’ve discussed. Very useful to get the name of a reliable moving company though. Many thanks.

We've used Moray Firth Removers to bring over some stuff from Nairn. They take it to a company they use near Dartford who take it the rest of the way. Goods have only just been picked up in Nairn so can't recommend but their reviews are excellent. Very helpful and easy to communicate with too.
