We have travelled every year for the past 10 years with our Golden Retriever taking the Tunnel and driving through France, found many pet friendly hotels if it's too warm he finds the shade, I always manage to find the same Dog Food Hills without any problem and the vet places an order if out of stock.
We moved here last June with our ESS and Mastine x. We got them vaccinated in UK for Leishmaniasis. We forgot to bring Frontline though. Our dogs came back from their walks with ticks +++ first few days. We took Brittany ferries from Portsmouth tp Bilbao. They had kennels on the ferry, but they are not great. We did have a dog friendly cabin booked which is best option but had to change our dates. There are lots of dog friendly hotels on way down. The spaniel had a radical haircut before we left. The mastine just found the shadiest spot. We had A/con put in our bedroom-the dogs slept in there with us as rest of house was like an oven. The spaniel jumped in the pool everyday as she loves swimming. My husband walked them early AM in summer. We live in the campo so not a problem keeping them off leads. Our vets are really good and do doggy haircuts too (Maskota Fuente Alamo.) As long as dogs are with you, they are happy, but our 2 house trained dogs started weeing in house when we went out (anxiety we think) plus we got 2 rescue dogs who were not house trained! Coming home to lagoons of urine not nice, but now they have a secure pen and lovely kennels outside-they have also become house trained.Food from supermarket OK-but they get scraps too.Our Mastine used to catch rabbits too.We have a now secure compound as there are roaming dogs -these are often from the village. If you have what is classed as a dangerous breed eg Akita-they must be registered with town hall.
