Hi,

I'm looking for some help in training our new puppy. What we'd like to know is, how can we train her to go to the toilet in one specific area, as it is at the moment when she goes to the toilet it;s generally anywhere on the rear terrace?

Thanks

Bob

There are quite a few ideas about how to do this if you Google it. Here's one below - It is American but it explains well enough:

We are having the same problem with our rescue dog who is 18 months old. We have ordered 2 books off Amazon-still waiting for them. We read if you can get the puppy to wee on an old towel, then put the towel where you want it to wee-takes a few weeks. Dog treats when it gets it right. Say NO!!!!!!!! when it gets it wrong.Never rub its nose in it. Take dog out on a lead to to start with.

Clean terrace up with vinegar or lemon juice or bio washing powder or you can get some special stuff.

Thanks for the info, had another reply that said to take it out on a lead to the area you want it to go. No eye contact or fussing until it's done it business then lots of praise. Will take up to 4 weeks.

Thank you for the info, have read it and will be giving it a go, when we get a collar and lead. She's a bit small for a collar at the moment.

I am a registered dog breeder since the 1970's.German Shepherds,Yorkies,Cavalier King Charles. It depends on the age of your pup firstly as initially his Mum would have been cleaning him.You just have to be patient taking him out at very regular intervals to where you need him to perform.Remember dogs are creatures of habit it  won't t help to scold him if he makes mistakes as he needs to go at that time. Also,if you have tiles in the place he goes indoors & tiling in an outside area where you WANT him to perform,he cannot early on,see the difference.Using smells can help an adult dog adapt but it will not work that well with a pup.Repetition is the key with most creatures,I used to breed & train parrots also.We humans like routine,it becomes "a habit"
