@Mitch

That must only apply to residents not non residents ??

I have paid my Spanish non-resident taxes for several years from wise.com.

I am not sure of that but I have a feeling it might be the case.

When we paid our NRT I think it was paid to our solicitors by D/D who then paid it on our behalf, but then we did have a Sabadell account. We have since seen the light and use N26/Wise for all our Spanish banking!

Of course the government agencies in Spain do like to be able to seize payments from your account for non-payment of debts, so I think it is all linked to that. I have heard many stories of people who have had money taken from their accounts - obviously sometimes by mistake but usually because they haven't paid what they owe.

Hi J&B

I am a full-time resident in Spain and I have recently had to submit my tax payment for the year.

I have an N26 account which is classed as  a Spanish account, has an ES IBAN, but I was faced by the same problem, my account was not authorised to pay directly to the Spanish Tax Authority.

N26 themselves say "N26 isn’t an official partner of the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria)". I suspect that the same issue applies with Wise (which I also have a Euro account with). N26 is a German based bank and Wise is Belgian.

You can still pay your taxes from these accounts but the Tax Agency doesn't have the authority to deduct the money directly from your account - which means they can't just seize from your account for outstanding debts.

You can find out more information about which banks are authorised here.

Hope you find this useful.

Excellent. Thanks for taking the time to reach out. 👍👍
