It would help if you said ...what Airport you intended flying in to...but what ever the case maybe you are looking at a taxi.

Those were 3 great posts Mark - I thought I knew about cheap Car Hire but I know a lot more now!

The only other thing I can think of is to be aware of Airport Surcharges. I book through DoYouSpain and always from Murcia Airport. The first time I booked Goldcar the hire charge was showing at 8.70 euros for 11 nights plus Airport Surcharge of "8% of rental price + any extras + the price of the tank of fuel with a maximum of 35.09 euros".

I calculated the Airport Surcharge would be 8% of 8.70 euros (about half a euro) as I had not booked any extras (sat nav, baby chair, etc) + the fuel. They actually charged me 32.99 euros itemised as Recargo Aeropuerto (Airport Surcharge) 2.75 euros, Extra New 24.75 euros, plus taxes bringing the total to 32.99. When I queried this mysterious "Extra New" at the desk the girl replied she didn't know what it was but they had to charge what the computer said!

I have queried it through DoYouSpain but they are a waste of time, simply re-iterating that the maximum Airport Surcharge as stated in their Terms & Conditions would be 35.09 euros and I was "only" charged 32.99 euros so what's my problem?!!

So, my point is, it looks to me like the Airport Surcharge will always be somewhere near the 35.09 maximum even if Goldcar have to dream up a random amount out of nowhere and call it "Extra New" and add it to your bill without any explanation or justification whatsoever!

It's all good fun!

Watch out the car hire firm Gold Car. You should listen to a BBC radio program about this dodgy firm. Google it first. Remember there's no free lunch in this world. Beware.....

I am still fighting for a refund of 150 euros from Goldcar and DoYouSpain it was taken from my credit card for a very small scratch they said was not there when I took the car, this allegation was disproved however they have still not made the refund since 23rd May.

The excess insurance I took out was from DoYouSpain and was their premium cover with Zurich insurance company based I the UK I have now contacted the insurance ombudsman and awaiting the response.

As previse post said Google goldcar  and see their bad reviews I wish I had.

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

Can you explain the insurance in more detail. In Spain, as with many other countries it is the car that is insured unlike the UK where it is the driver that is insured.

Gold Car are a shower of thieves and should be avoided at all cost.
