I have hired from Goldcar at RMU airport 3 times and each time have not had the fully refundable deposit due so so called damage of which there was absolutely none on any occasion.  Is there a better car hire company?

Try Flamenca cars, we have used them a few times with no problem. Slightly more expensive but no deposit required. Also so easy, they meet you at the terminal and take you to your car,it literally takes 10 minutes. Would highly recommend.

Goldcar appears to be one of the most complained about car hire companies in Europe.

Personally, I've had two bad experiences with them, but fortunately been able to get my money back via my credit card provider.

We use Record Go at Alicante, so if they operate at RMU, then I would recommend giving them a go. They are very competitive on price and the customer service has always been good...

I've used Firefly on 2 occasions no problems - have a car booked in Feb with Goldcar, very apprehensive about them. In May we are using Sixt through website Do You Spain (this will be 1st time with them as well).

Goldcar also operate as Interrent & Rhodium. Please see links below to reviews for Goldcar and also a Which? article last year.

(In my opinion) the business model appears to be:

Advertise the cheapest possible rates to attract customers > these rates are uneconomic, so pressure your staff to sell lucrative extra insurance > overcharge for fuel (whether used or not) > invent damage & then over-charge for repairs (which you don't actually carry out) > make complaining so hard, that complaining customers give up.

The credit card companies could stop this by refusing to work with them, but then they'd lose their commission...

You should cancel your Goldcar booking if you can. They have a terrible reputation. Centauro are quite good. I have used them often.

I will never book with goldcar again - charged for extra insurance I did not ask for. Use Firefly.

There certainly isn't a worse one 😠 We use OK via www.doyouspain.com and have never had a problem.

We also use flamenca from both Alicante and and Corvera, and never had a problem.
