Car insurance
How does car insurance work ? silly question do you keep your no claims bonuses from the UK I know that's going to sound dum ! or does it go on type of car engine size ?
Your Spanish car insurance has nothing to do with your UK car insurance.
NCD etc does not transfer.
It goes on make of car engine size etc just the same as UK car insurance.
The only thing that is different is that breakdown insurance is included with the policy.
Didn't know that, good question and good direct answer. Don't know if the same will be said about the list of questions I'll soon be posting...... Stand by ya beds!

I thought they accepted UK ncd and in Spain? It is called prima de no reclamacion. I read some companies wont accept it if it is a month out of date though.

Re UK NCD, there is no rule, some companies will accept it, some will not, others may offer an “introductory” discount. Main difference is that it is the car that is insured rather than the driver - at least for mature drivers. Most policies will give full cover for any driver over 25 who has held full licence for over two years, but if you are under 25 be prepared to pay a substantial premium. As Roland says Europe-wide breakdown cover is usually included - very necessary as using towropes is completely illegal, so a ‘grua’ must come to you. If the UK ever leaves the EU then for residents a Spanish licence will probably be a must, so do it before they leave or you may have to take a test (written and practical) in Spanish!
Go and see a good broker like Liberty Seguros in Los Narejos, and shop online.

The Liberty Seguros agent we are dealing with told me that they can access our ncb history on line and it is taken into account.
Likewise if returning to the UK.
Whether or not that will apply after Brexit who knows.

Brexit should not have any effect on whether the ncd is accepted from Spain to UK and vice versa. I have been a motor insurer underwriter in the UK for over 20 years and we will not be changing our stance of accepting Spanish ncd.

Check how far you can be recovered in the event of breakdown or an accident.
Most do not cover more than 100km some 150km. Useless if you want to travel around Spain or beyond....
It happened to me. I broke down 450km from home. Cost me 450€ in car hire and additional fuel to travel home and then back again to collect my car. The
So you need hire car cover for accident and breakdown and accommodation cover whilst your car is repaired and some car insurance offer unlimited recovery mileage, shown as 0km's in the advertising..... Like the company I use.

You still need information on what to ask an Insurance Company or an agent.
Never rely on " one's hope" that they offer you the best deal.
Choose the wrong Company and find out the hard way, the expensive way, that you are Not covered to get home because you travelled 350km from home and you were Not entitled to car hire for breakdown.
Most Spanish Car Insurance Company's have limited km's recovery, most only offer 100km recovery.
That is good sensible advice to someone looking for car insurance............
