Driving on UK plates

You should contact your insurance company and ask them ..my insurance company only permits you 30 days use out of the country and you have got to give them notice of when you are leaving and returning do not listen to any of the rubbish you hear on this or any other forums you must notify your insurance company of your intentions the 6 months rule  is the maximum time you are given before you are forced to replate on to Spanish plates...some regions only give you 3 months...all this info can be found on the net.

Buy a Spanish car and you'll have no problems with the law. I know they are more expensive than in the UK, but the residual value will match. Another alternative is to buy a good LHD car in the UK and take it there. There are several dealers who specialise in LHD.

The Guardia often go round photographing UK car plates plus the ANPR cameras are everywhere now, not worth the risk.

Thanks to everyone who took time to reply. I think I should have been clearer in what I was asking. I'm normally on two wheels not four. My question wasn't so much about insurance but, more to do with Spanish legislation i.e. how long can a UK registered vehicle be used on the road in Spain without breaking the law, assuming of course it is covered by insurance for use in Spain.

p.s I'll probably have a Spanish registered car as well. My own cars are all classics, not something I could easily pick up in Spain.
