Hi,my partner has recently become a resident via an S1 as she is a pensioner and has just been to the farmacia on A and has been asked to pay 90 euro for some eye drops, she needs to go back and collect later today ,my question is does this seem correct?
NO!!!
As a pensioner, you pay 10%. Are you sure she doesn't mean 90 centimos?
Or rather, the farmacia meant 90 cents and she misunderstood?

Were the eyedrops on a prescription from her state medical GP or was she just buying them herself? Big potential difference in price!

Yes, I should have clarified that a pensioner pays 10% of a prescribed drug!
But, even without a prescription, I cannot imagine that any eyedrops would cost 90 Euros!!
Thanks for replys everyone she has just had laser eye surgery done privately on one eye and the optician told her to get these eye drops from the farmacia so does that mean she has to pay the full wack.cheers

Yes, without a prescription she would.
Eye drops generally are not expensive. Things like Tobradex and Voltaren which my husband has had for post cataract op are about 3 Euros. I have dry eyes and need to put in drops several times a day. I use Dacrolux (not on prescription) which are about 7 Euros.

thats the problem with any private surgery....any medication or aftercare wont be covered by the health system. Maybe she should go to her doctor and ask for a prescription.

Any medication to do with teeth, eyes or ears is expensive private or health service. I have to visit the opthamologist at Santa Lucia 2-3 times per year as my sight is very weak due to macula Degeneration, my monthly authorisation is for medication costing 56 euros, drops and tablets. I also have S1 but to the Spanish these illnesses are non essential. I am waiting to have my eyes injected to see if this helps, due to the severity of the condition the procedure will be paid by the state.

I did this with my state hospital prescribed authorisation for my prescribed eye medication, no the medication is not on the List, my doctor explained not all drugs are on the list, I asked if it was possible for him to prescribe something cheaper but a GP will nit go against a consultants prescription. My GP also explained eyes, ears and dental are classed as cosmetic unless an operation is required.

Big question has she applied for her medical card - you say she has residentia which she would need to get onto the medical system but this process is different.
